Zhanna Kadyrova

Nasceu em Brovary, Ucrânia, 1981. Vive e trabalha em Kiev, Ucrânia.

Seu trabalho percorre diferentes suportes como fotografia, pintura, desenho, video e performance mas foram suas esculturas em mosaico que a tornaram mundialmente conhecida. O mosaico é uma linguagem muito presente na Ucrânia e tem suas raízes na tradição soviética. Ao utilizar tal linguagem o trabalho de Kadyrova ganha significado histórico, político e social também pela utilização de materiais simples e rotineiros como telhas quebradas de cerâmica, cimento, madeira e pedra. Em 2013 ganhou o Main Award of the PinchukArtCentre Prize, o mais importante de seu país, e também participou da Bienal de Veneza.

Her work covers various media such as photography, painting, drawing, video and performance but it was her mosaic sculptures that turned her known worldwide. The mosaic is a language very present in Ukraine and has its roots in the Soviet tradition. By using such language, the work of Kadyrova wins historical, political and social significance, also by the use of simple and routine materials such as broken ceramic tiles, cement, wood and stone. In 2013 she won the Main Award of the PinchukArtCentre Prize, the most important of her country, and also participated in the Venice Biennale.
