Martin Parr é um cronista de nossa época. Diante do fluxo constante de imagens divulgadas pela mídia, suas fotografias nos oferecem a oportunidade de ver o mundo a partir de sua perspectiva única.

À primeira vista, suas fotografias parecem exageradas ou até grotescas. Os temas e escolhas são estranhos, as cores são berrantes e as perspectivas são incomuns. Para Martin Parr o poder das imagens publicadas em propagandas é esmagador. Ele contesta estes anúncios com suas próprias armas: crítica, sedução e humor. Como resultado, suas fotografias são originais e divertidas, acessíveis e compreensíveis. Contudo, ao mesmo tempo, nos mostram de maneira penetrante como vivemos, como nos apresentamos aos outros e o que valorizamos.

Lazer, consumo e comunicação são os conceitos que este fotógrafo britânico vem pesquisando há várias décadas em suas viagens ao redor do mundo. No processo, ele examina características nacionais e fenômenos internacionais para descobrir como eles são válidos como símbolos que ajudarão as futuras gerações a entender nossas peculiaridades culturais. Parr nos permite ver coisas que pareciam familiares para nós de uma maneira completamente nova. Desta forma ele cria sua própria imagem de sociedade, o que nos permite combinar uma análise dos sinais visíveis da globalização com experiências visuais incomuns. Os temas que Parr seleciona e seu tratamento incomparável fazem dele um fotógrafo cujo trabalho envolve a criação de séries extensas. Parte de sua estratégia incomum é apresentar e publicar as mesmas fotos no contexto de fotografia artística, em exposições e em livros de arte, bem como nos campos relacionados à publicidade e ao jornalismo. Desta forma, ele transcende a separação tradicional dos diferentes tipos de fotografia. Graças a esta abordagem integradora, bem como ao seu estilo e à sua escolha de temas, serviu durante muito tempo como modelo para a geração mais jovem de fotógrafos.
