Roberto Jacoby

Nasceu em Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1944. Vive e trabalha em Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Jacoby é um observador ativo dos pontos de ruptura, das frestas pelas quais se filtra a possibilidade do novo. Protagonista perturbador da vanguarda argentina,  o artista trabalha desde os anos 1960 no que então se chamava “arte dos meios”, ou “arte desmaterializada”. “Algo como o que hoje se chama arte conceitual”, ele explica. Na década de 1970, decidiu se dedicar também a investigação social. Durante a ditadura argentina, escreveu letras que foram cantadas pelo influente grupo de pop-rock Virus ao longo de dez anos. Associa-se com outros artistas (“Sempre trabalhei com outras pessoas, uma, duas, vinte ou seiscentas”) para criar ações e instalações que dialoguem com as incongruências e medos do coletivo social.

Jacoby is an active observer of the break points, the cracks which the possibility of the new is filtered by. Disturbing protagonist  of Argentine vanguard, the artist works since the 1960‘s in what then was called “art of medium” or “dematerialized art”. “Something like what is now called conceptual art,” he explains. In the 1970‘s, decided to devote himself also to social investigation. During the Argentine dictatorship, he wrote lyrics that were sung by the influential pop-rock group Virus over ten years. He associates with other artists (“I’ve always worked with other people, one, two, twenty or six hundred”) to create actions and installations that dialogues with the social collective incongruities and fears.
